Warning: this article may contain (admittedly, mild) spoilers from the season premiere of Game of Thrones.
Now, let’s cast our minds back to the first season of Game of Thrones. Before she mothered those dragons, Daenerys Targaryen was the wife of Khal Drogo.
Their relationship might have got off to a bad start, but they ended up falling in love, arguably each making the other a better person.
The Khal was instrumental in helping his Khaleesi to realise her strength, and to become a great leader.
Obviously, things didn’t end ideally. After Drogo was mortally wounded, Daenerys commanded a slave to use her “blood magic” to save his life. This woman complied, but – as revenge for the Dothraki sacking her village – she used the “blood” of Daenerys and Drogo’s unborn son to complete the ritual, and left Drogo in a permanent vegetativestate.
After Khaleesi’s son was born stillborn and deformed, she smothered Khal Drogo, to put an end to his suffering.
Jason Momoa – who played Khal Drogo – has obviously, however, continued to watch Game of Thrones. In the first episode of season six, Daenerys is back with the Dothraki, and Khal Drogo gets somewhat of a shout out.
This didn’t go unnoticed on the part of Jason, who Instagrammed the scene:

Probably the most exciting thing? Jason’s “see you in Ireland” shout-out to Dan and David (presumably Weiss and Benioff – creatorsof the show).
Does that mean that Khal Drogo is going to be back in Game of Thrones? We doubt he’ll be coming back to life, but maybe we’ve got a flashback coming our way…
