As the U.S presidential race begins to heat up, and people around the world wonder who will be taking Obama’s spot (and praying it’s not Trump), it seems like a good time to discuss the money.
Let’s face it, we’re a very nosy species, us humans. There are two kinds of people, people who admit theywonder how much other people are earning. And then there are liars.
This might not be a surprise, but the President of the USA is definitely not underpaid. Not even slightly. He earns $400,000 ( 270,000) a year, plus an extra expense allowance of $50,000 (34,000). Though, we must obviously take into account the fact that being the President isn’t exactly a walk in the park. In fact, it’s particularly stressful – hence the big bucks.
The wage seems particularly high when you bear in mind that the average US salary is only $45,230.
How much is David Cameron on, you ask? The BritishPrime Minister earns148,000 ($214,000) a year. Both of them beat Vladimir Putin who is alleged to only early $136,000 (94,000) per year. The sales of his sexy calendar must be down, then…
Despite beating the salaries of other world leaders, Obama is actually taking home much more than $400,000 – due to royalties from his books, returns on investments and other things. In 2011 his total income was$790,000, (548,000).
That’s not to mention the other perks like free travel, security, housing etc.
And if that’s not enough, when his time as president is over he’ll remain on government payroll withan annual pension of about $200,000, health care, paid official travel, and an office.
Now we know why Trump is trying so hard to get the job.
